TANGO
Tango is a social dance that evolved in Buenos Aires, Argentina, around the end of the 19th Century. It has drawn elements from many origins (African, European, Native) and continues to evolve even today, in cities around the world, as dancers strive to simultaneously recreate the old traditions and push the dance forward into uncharted territory. It has a reputation amongst the other social dances for its beauty, subtlety, and sensuality, and is considered to be one of the most difficult to learn. Despite its reputation, however, one can become a competent social dancer in six months to a year, given quality instruction and a certain amount of time on the floor.

SEATTLE TANGO
Here in Seattle there are more than two dozen tango instructors with countless classes offered, a handful of practicas (places to practice tango), and several social dances every week (on some nights there are multiple events occurring at the same time). Skill levels range from wide-eyed beginners to some of the finest dancers in the country. One can see people in suits and fancy dresses dancing along side those sporting jeans and tank tops. Ages range from teen to octogenarian. Seattle is considered to be one of the premier tango scenes in North America, alongside San Francisco, Portland, New York and Montreal

THE 8TH STYLE
The 8th Style School of Tango is a collaborative effort to find the most effective way of teaching this dance that we love. We don’t kid around with giving a bunch of isolated, meaningless steps, but cut right to the chase by teaching students the technique they need to dance their best Tango. We start by working on a simple, chest-to-chest style that can be used in any crowded dance hall around the world. We then move to a more flexible and elegant salon style, which opens way to the more modern evolutions of the dance. Musicality and connection are constant themes throughout the curriculum, which, in its entirety lasts about two and a half years (from absolute beginner to a professional level). Students never have to sign any contracts and are free to come and go within this curriculum as they please. In fact, after each semester (every six months), we actually encourage students to make a concerted effort to study with another school or instructor before continuing with The 8th Style.
